The academy, according to the company, is to help workers and other category of business partners build knowledge and increase their competency level.
Besides, the company said it is targetting Nigeria as one of its viable definitions in terms of sales and growth.
Regional Business Manager, Jaguar, Land Rover [South Africa] [Pty] Limited, Nigel Clark, who disclosed this recently at the launch of JaguarLand Rover XJ, said his company would also set up another academy in West Africa by July same year.
He explained that his company was considering the take-off of the project in East Africa as the first step due to operational reasons, adding that it is logistically easy from the yet-to-be decided country in terms of travel time. ‘’However, we are very conscious of the need to set up one on the West Coast and that will happen pretty much within six months after the opening of the one in East Africa.
“In the meantime, there are still quite a lot of details to go through before we make up our decision. It is scheduled to take off by January or February next year’’. Throwing more light on the academy,Nigel said it will be managed by sound technical people from the United Kingdom who will live here and work with a team, and in collaboration with the manufacturers, develop a training programme.
“Among them are very young and vibrant technical people coming from Nigeria, Angola, Kenya and so on for whom we need to give an opportunity to be constantly trained, particularly on the technical side. Our premium products, be it Jaguar, LandRover and other brands are very technically advanced.
‘’The technology in these brands is in many cases, class-leading and certainly very important part of those products. So, to be able to diagnose any fault and ensure that the customer has a reasonable turn-around any moment their cars are driven into the workshop, then we have to make sure that we are constantly training our people on the technology’’.
He explained that this is because the technology available to them in terms of diagnostic equipment is very good and highly advanced and to be able to understand, and diagnose, constant training is very important. So that is the reason for the academy.
