Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation said it disbursed over N45.88 million to 132 beneficiaries across 24 locations during its 10th annual Zakat distribution ceremony held at the Abuja National Mosque.

The chief executive officer of the foundation, Mukhtar Sani Abdulkadir, said the interventions were carried out amid worsening economic hardship, rising food prices and increasing pressure on vulnerable households.

He said widows, orphans, indigent persons and low income earners were among the worst hit by inflation, transportation costs and rising healthcare expenses.

“The impact of these realities was more severe among widows, orphans, indigent persons and low-income households who now devote a substantial portion of their income to basic survival needs,” he said.

Abdulkadir explained that education received the highest allocation of over N22.08 million, while economic empowerment accounted for the largest number of beneficiaries, with 76 persons receiving support worth over N14.32 million.

He said beneficiaries received grinding machines, sewing machines, deep freezers and other livelihood support items alongside direct financial assistance for household, educational and healthcare needs.

 

 

 

The CEO added that beneficiaries were drawn from the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory as well as Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Osun states.

 

 

 

“The interventions being implemented today is expected to produce measurable social impact,” he explained, adding, “Several beneficiaries will be able to revive small businesses, settle medical expenses, continue educational pursuits and meet essential household obligations despite the prevailing economic hardship.”

 

 

 

Chairman of the foundation, Adamu Bello, said the organisation recently experienced operational challenges but had resumed its zakat activities.

 

 

 

He explained that the distribution exercise was delayed because most zakat collections were realised towards the end of Ramadan, adding that the disbursement process was conducted with prudence and accountability.

 

 

 

The Foundation boss appealed to wealthy individuals and corporate organisations to increase support for vulnerable Nigerians amid widening economic hardship.
