The Athletics competition which lasted for three days, beginning from 26th to 28th April at the Kafanchan New Stadium was competed amongst secondary schools boys and girls at Chiefdom / Emirate level, boys was organized by the Kafanchan Zonal Sports office, ministry of youth and sports Kaduna State in conjunction with traditional rulers in Southern Kaduna.

The championship was aimed at promoting love, friendship, peace, unity, patriotism and the discovery of talents as well as encouragement of youth in productive ventures.

According to the result released by the officials, Gwong chiefdom emerged second with 12-gold, six silver and nineteen bronze, while third position went to Fantsam chiefdom with one gold, six silver and seven bronze medals

Speaking, His Royal Highness, KPOP Gwong, Col. Paul Zakka Wyom (rtd), represented at the closing ceremony by Mr. Bulus Kyakung, the Wakilin Gwong, commended the Kaduna State Ministry of Youth and Sports for organizing and officiating the competition which according to him, was up to national standard.

He also commended chiefdoms and emirate of Southern Kaduna for accepting to participate in the competition noting that youth who are future leaders must be properly groomed to become responsible citizens and to take the task of leadership

Kpop gwong appealed to the State and Local Governments, wealthy sons, daughters and organizations to assist in sponsorship of subsequent editions of the competition.

The Gwong traditional ruler, thanked sons, daughters and friends of the chiefdom whose moral, material and financial contributions enabled contingent of the area to emerged second in the athletics competition
