It is the eight wonder of the world for a President that conceded defeat to make a U-turn after a week.

President Yahaya Jammeh is trying to perpetuate himself in the office that he has been occupying for good 22 years. He is just out to scuttle the relative peace in the country by opting to reject the result of an election in which he was defeated.

It is the same President Jammeh that praised the election as ‘transparent,’ saying ‘Allah is telling me my time is up.’

Even the votes cast show that his opponent, now the president-elect, Adams Barrow, won the election with 222,708 votes, representing 43.34%, while Jammeh got 208,487 votes, representing 39.6%.

It is imperative for ECOWAS, the AU and the UN to wade into this issue so as to see that the country is not thrown into chaos by this dictator. The people of The Gambia have liberated themselves from Jammeh’s despotic rule by voting him out of power, their decision must stand.

The world should not allow the antics of President Yahaya Jammeh to stand. He should be told in clear terms that his time is up. The world should ensure that he vacates the seat for the new president to be sworn-in in January, as provided by the country’s constitution.
