The Gambian parliament on Tuesday passed a resolution that allows embattled President Yahya Jammeh to stay in power for 90-day.

The parliament which approved a 90-day state of emergency, condemned the "unlawful and malicious interference in the internal affairs of The Gambia by the AU Peace and Security Council, government of Senegal and Senegal’s representative at the UNSC (Security Council)".

Jammeh’s tenure ends Jan. 19, the same day that President-elect Adama  Barrow is expected to be sworn-in as his successor.

Both the African Union and ECOWAS have said that Jammeh will cease to be recognised as Gambian President from the date.

The US warned Jammeh that he is losing opportunities to peacefully handover to Barrow and avoid the consequences of his actions.
