The Deputy Head of Mission Japan embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Masaya Otsuka, said at the commissioning that the clinics are meant to improve the health situation of the people in the two  communities.
He also said that there was no single health facility in the two communities before the initiation of the project, leading to loss of lives from treatable diseases and recoverable injuries.
“In case of emergency, people in these two communities had to go to the nearest hospitals which are 40 kms away from them. The remoteness of these communities and the financial burden of transport fare and medical bill even made going to hospitals more difficult. In addition, pregnant women used to give birth inside their houses and it caused a lot of problems in case of any labour complication,” Otsuka said.
He added that “in order to improve the current situation, the Embassy of Japan has constructed two buildings of four-room clinics equipped with basic medical equipment, furniture, a refrigerator, a generator and a borehole  by one of our NGOs Christian Broadcasting Network Africa that has wide experience in the health sector.”
The envoy also said they have carefully selected 10 volunteer health workers from each community and trained them with basic medical knowledge and practical skills and expressed delight to see them working with a lot of confidence.
Speaking separately chiefs of the communities Mallam Kasimu Akawu of Angwan Ahmadu and Chief Musa Auta of Angwan Ayaba commended the government and people of Japan for the gesture and promised that the facilities would be judiciously put to use.
