A top official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan made the remark yesterday in Tokyo at a pre-conference press briefing.
He said at the end of the full meeting on Saturday, there would a release of the “Hiroshima Statement” which would help check arms proliferation and disarmament around the world.
The official who is of a Director status gave an overview of Japan’s efforts on nuclear disarmament emphasizing thatthey are realistic and practical steps.
He noted that some of Japan’s efforts include basic position on disarmament and non-proliferation, international efforts including humanitarian approach and human security perspective and partnership with civil society.
The official stressed that a “Youth Exchange Program” have been introduced to provide an opportunity for the youths in the NPDI member countries to learn about the realities of the tragedies caused by the use of atomic bombs and to hear the testimonies of the people of Hiroshima so that they can deepen their understanding and knowledge of the reality of horrible devastation resulting from the use of atomic bombs.
Nigeria ambassador to Japan, Mr. Godwin Nsude Agbo, would represent the minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador AminuWali at the meeting.
