The ceremony under the grant assistance for grassroots human security project was performed in Abuja by the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Ryuichi Shoji and the project Coordinator of the Initiative, Ms. Nehi Okunmwendia.
Ambassador Shoji said the project is in line with the Japanese government policy to focus on two groups-young people and the women.
On the choice of Upu, the ambassador said there is no single health facility in the vicinity.
He explained that members of the community currently travel to Otukpo General Hospital, which is far from Upu community and precious lives have been lost in case of emergency.
The ambassador argued that this “unfortunate situation has made people, especially vulnerable children and women, lose their lives from preventable diseases and recoverable injuries.”
