Deputy Head of the mission in Nigeria, Mr. Masaya Otsuka, while commissioning the classrooms, said the gesture was aimed at creating a conductive learning environment for the pupils of the school.
He noted that the embassy has made effort in tackling socio-economic problems of people at the grassroots level in Nigeria.
He said the embassy had from 1998 to date executed a total of 149 projects across the country worth over 10 million US dollars.
“In Chukuku community, there are a lot of children who are finding it difficult to learn under a decent and conducive environment due to shortage of classrooms, furniture and toilet,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Mr. Shaban Ishaku Tete, represented by his vice Alhaji Mohammed D. Baba, noted that the donation was not the first time the council was receiving from the Japanese Embassy.
He observed that the gesture would go a long way in improving the learning conditions of both the pupils and teachers.
“Last year the council distributed educational materials to schools across 10 wards to cushion the effect of challenges faced by the benefiting schools,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) Alhaji Umar Barau Ningi, who commended the embassy for the gesture, promised to fence the school before the end of this year and provide additional security.
