Jazz: ‘On Mass,’ for Lagos performance

A jazz performance, ‘On Mass,’ was held at the MUSON centre Lagos on Thursday as part of the UK/Nigeria 2015-16 season of arts.
The event which was a partnership with Call to Create featured a jazz performance by The Art Ensemble of Lagos and the MUSON Jazz Ensemble in collaboration with Vidal Montgomery and Wayne Francis II from the United Kingdom, according to a release from the organisers.
The Call to Create network was established by the Roundhouse, UK, to showcase the talents of young artistes and to encourage collaborations between established and emerging artistes around the world.
Director of Arts, British Council Nigeria, Ojoma Ochai, explained that: “One of the ways of showing the fusion of cultures is music,” adding that ‘On Mass’ showcased the beauty of blending the cultures of Nigeria and the UK through jazz.
The season of arts in Nigeria is aimed at building new audiences, creating new collaborations and strengthening relationships between the UK and Nigeria.
Programmed in association with a host of partners, features more than 30 projects and more than 80 events in art, fashion, design, theatre, dance, music, literature and film throughout Nigeria and includes showcases of Nigerian arts and creative industries in the UK.
The project, which will run until April 2016, focuses on creating access to art, new digital work, innovation, art in public spaces and working with young people.
