According to a report on nollywoodweek.com, the festival’s Executive Director, Serge Noukoué, said: “Jimmy is a perfect representation of the open spirit that the festival advocates.
“After making his mark in the United States playing various roles in Hollywood, he headed to Nigeria where he acted in several movies with this will to contribute to the development this new industry and today, he spots his director’s cap with his documentary, ‘Jimmy Goes to Nollywood’, which will be presented on opening night on Thursday June 4.”
For this year’s outing, 10 films have been selected to screen with eight of them to win the Audience Award competition.
The films are:
‘A Mile From Home’ directed by Eric Ameghien. The movie chronicles the life of a university student who joined a gang in his quest to avenge an injustice done to him by a notorious gangster. He is far from imagining just where this decision will lead him.
Another is, ‘The Last Three Digits’ directed by Moses Igwang. It tells the story of Alex who accidentally runs into the love of his life at a shopping centre and uses the opportunity to get her number before she slips away again but three missing digits lead him on a true quest to find love.
There is also Tunde Kelani’s ‘Dazzling Mirage’ based on the novel of the same name, a young woman with sickle cell anemia must overcome various obstacles to lead a normal and fulfilled life.
‘Gone Too Far’ directed by Destiny Ekaragha is a comedy that unfolds in one day when two brothers, one London-bred and the other from Lagos, meet for the first time after being separated since infancy.
Another contender is ‘Love or something like’ directed by Shirley Frimpong. It is based on the life of a busy surgeon who believes she found her happy ending until she crosses path with her ex-boyfriend…
C.J. Obasi’s ‘Ojuju’ narrates the story of Romero and his friends who have to fight their way out of their neighbourhood when the water supply infects people with rabid river blindness. It is regarded as a Zombie thriller, but the Nigerian style.
Widely acclaimed ‘October 1’ directed by Kunle Afolayan is also on the list. The movie is set in 1960, when a Nigerian police detective is dispatched to investigate the murders of women in a small community.
‘Thy will be Done’ directed by Obi Emelonye focuses on the pastor of a large church in Lagos who has a normal life until one day his wife, who died seven years earlier returns.
OC Ukeje, Ramsey Nouah and Lala Akindoju along with directors of all the films are expected at the fiesta which holds from June 4 to 7, to discuss their works.
