Now that it has been ordered that no gubernatorial elections would hold in five states in the federation, Jega has at his disposal a pool from where he can draw to satisfy the needs and yearnings of the complaining states. The states agitating genuinely for the removal of their RECs and other electoral officers include Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Oyo, and Benue to mention but some. As for the Cross River state REC, it has been the party in power (PDP) there that is demanding for the REC’s replacement.

Akwa Ibom has a peculiar case where the Police Commissioner there, Mr. Felix Uyanna, remains the only State Police Commissioner that the Inspector General of Police refused to substitute during his 31st April, 2011 mass transfer of the entire states’ police commissioners. Many have criticized Mr. Ringim for partisanship in this regard. This is an opportunity for Mr. Ringim to prove the opposition’s accusations against the police wrong.
