The Local Organising Committee for the 2015 eNigeria conference which is a flagship programme of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has confirmed more speakers for the event.
Speaking in Abuja, NITDA’s Director of Corporate Strategy and Research, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, said: “given the high profile of speakers eNigeria has attracted over the years, the 2015 event cannot afford to have anything less, hence the committee was doing its most to have very resourceful speakers”.
He added that with Prof. Pat Utomi, delivering the keynote in 2013 and Engr. Jelani Aliyu doing same in 2014, NITDA would ensure it confirms a speaker that will further help advance the impact of Information Communication Technology in national development. Olatunji who is the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee said this year’s event will strategically set the tone of conversations on the role of local content in the adoption of IT in Nigeria’s electoral process”.
Revealing a list of some of the speakers already confirmed, NITDA stated that Dr Umar Bindir, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government and immediate past Director General of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, NOTAP. Others are Dr Kabiru Mato who will speak on the Effects and Benefits of e-electoral Process for Developing Countries, while Prof. Junaid Saladu will speak on Data Security and the Internet of things in e-Electoral Process.
In order to ensure a very robust conversation at the conference and to contribute to the success of Nigeria’s emerging eElectoral process by way of enriching the system, NITDA said it has also outlined thought leaders in the elections ecosystem some of whom include; Senator Ben Murray Bruce who is billed to speak on Comparative Analysis of Nigeria 2015, e-Election with Existing Global Best High-Tech Electronic Process in Developed Economy, Prof. Zakari Mohammed is expected to speak on Global Best Cyber-Security for e-Election System: A Predictive Model for Developing Countries among many others already confirmed.
Dr Olatunji said the successful adoption of voter’s card and the card reader for the last general elections in Nigeria is instrumental to the focus of eNigeria 2015 conference. The three day conference scheduled for November 17-19 has as its theme: Towards an effective Electoral Process in Nigeria: the Role of Local Content.
President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour, while the Director General of NITDA, Mr Peter Jack will be the host as guests and other dignitaries are expected from within and outside the country.
