The Chief Representative, JICA, Seki Tetsuo at the signing ceremony of the in country training said Nigeria is a great country, has the RUWASA programme in place and that JICA wants to assist in its platform of rural intervention by way of training.
He said accessibility of portable water is one of the major goals JICA is providing training for the trainers as was earlier done in 2013.
The service contract agreement said to be valued at N50 Million is to train 740 members from 265 communities in 44 LGAs of the benefiting five states and is going to be the last support for training of WASHCOMMS in the programme.
According to him the programme which was signed with the 5 states of Niger, Kebbi, Ondo, Enugu and Taraba states should be extended to other states so that development will reach all the people.
Tetsuo while urging the states that in country training should be sustained for efficiency and good practice delivery, said sensitization and training is important in every 3months and that they should report to JICA on their successes and challenges.
Speaking of the benefits of the projects, he said it will improved potable water supplies to the targeted rural communities; school children enrolments improvement; children and mother mortality reduced; livelihoods and productivity of rural communities’ and attainment of MDGs target on Water Supply and Sanitation realized.
Michael Cole Oguamah, the Managing Director Enugu State RUWASA said the  training given to the community had helped the people in areas of maintenance as they handle their problem without calling on RUWASA officials.
He said the RUWASA project which started three months ago in Enugu has yielded successful construction of 35 boreholes with 15 still ongoing.
