The Jigawa State Government has approved N532 million for the construction of classrooms in 132 Islamic schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, disclosed this yesterday while briefing newsmen after the state executive council meeting in Dutse.

Musa said the council approved the projects during its meeting on Wednesday, to enhance access to quality Islamic knowledge among children.

He said the approval followed a memo presented by the Ministry of Basic Education for the award of contract for the construction of classrooms in 132 Islamic schools.

He said the amount was captured under the 2024 constituency projects.

He said the council also endorsed the recommendations of the white paper committee on Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, and directed the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology to implement the recommendations in the institution.

“The council approved the constitution of a five-man interim management committee for the four tertiary institutions in the state,” he said.

He listed the institutions to include College of Education, Gumel; College of Education, Legal and Islamic Studies, Ringim, Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia and Jigawa State Polytechnic Dutse.

According to Mr Musa, the committee will serve for one year, pending the appointment of substantive management by the state government.
