Jigawa approves N91bn contracts across key sectors

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved contracts worth over N91.04 billion for projects spanning infrastructure, power, health, education, skills acquisition and flood control.

Briefing journalists after the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Umar Namadi, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa, said the approvals reflected the administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.

He disclosed that N689.38m was approved for electrification and solarisation of government institutions and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including specialist hospitals in Dutse and Hadejia, general hospitals in Kazaure, Birnin Kudu and Gumel, the Federal University Kafin Hausa, Birnin Kudu Academy and major markets such as Sara and Gujungu.

The council also approved N563.03m for the construction of a combustion workshop and training centre, including an induction and gas combustion centre, in Hadejia.

In the power sector, N15.24bn was approved for a solar mini-grid to serve the government house, key government offices, the state secretariat, the House of Assembly, the judiciary complex and Shuarin Gada Water Treatment Plant.

For road infrastructure, contracts worth N57.79bn were approved for the construction of 58.56 kilometres of township roads across Kafin Hausa, Gwaram, Ringim and Garki LGAs.

Additional approvals included N204.03m for mosque construction in selected communities, N557.08m for the Centre for Wetland Research at Sule Lamido University and N1.57bn for skills acquisition centres.

In the health sector, N8.05bn was approved for hospital upgrades and medical equipment, while N4.89bn was earmarked for drainage projects to address flooding.
