A former Executive Chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Zahraddeen Abubakar, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated February 28, 2026, and submitted to the APC Ward Chairman of Zandam Nagogo on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
Abubakar previously served as Special Assistant on Youths and Sports to former Jigawa State governor and ex-Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
He was later elected chairman of Gwaram Local Government during Badaru’s second tenure as governor.
“I write to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect,” Abubakar said in the letter.
The former council chairman stated that his political journey within the progressive movement predates the formal establishment of the APC in 2013.
According to him, he served in several capacities, including Northwest Youth Leader of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and interim APC Youth Leader for the North-West zone.
He said he remained committed to the party over the years with the expectation that it would uphold its founding ideals, lamenting that the party had gradually drifted away from the principles upon which it was established.
Following his resignation, Abubakar was reported to have met former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where both were performing the lesser Hajj (Umrah).
The development comes amid political moves in Jigawa, particularly following reports of Badaru’s meetings with opposition figures in the state, including former governor Sule Lamido.
However, Badaru had publicly dismissed reports suggesting he may defect from the APC.
