As part of its empowerment programme, Jigawa state government, has distributed a micro-credit of 25,605 goats to 8,535 women in the last four years.
When the present administration came on board, goat micro-credit for women was introduced. Under the scheme a woman receives, a he-goat and two she-goats and repay after 18 months.
The wife of the State governor, Hajiya Magajiya Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, made the statement in Kafin Hausa town, while disbursing N5,000 empowerment grant to rural women in the state.
Magajiya said at the beginning of the scheme, 5,740 women from 16 local governments of the state benefitted from 17, 220 goats.
She explained that out of the number, the state government had already received a total of 10, 320 goats as part of repayment for the loan.
She added that under the second batch of the scheme, another set of 3,340 women had also benefitted from the scheme.
The wife of the governor said 35,270 rural women were expected to benefit from the N5,000 grant as the sum of over N176m was expected to be disbursed at the end of the exercise.
