Hajiya Talle said her members have been harassing her over the failure of the minister to fulfill his promise, adding: “Over five months ago, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Adewunmi Adesina, was in Jigawa for a function with regards to rice production. He was particularly impressed with women rice farmers in the state.
“He visited my farm and subsequently invited me to Abuja with some AFAN leaders in the state. We met thrice with President Goodluck Jonathan and the President asked the minister to give Jigawa female farmers a tractor, Hilux vehicle and fertilizer for the group. Five months after, the minister is yet to redeem the presidential promises.”
She told journalists that she has been asked more than ten times to forward the list of her members and their phone numbers for onward distribution of fertiliser but they have not seen anything months after she made the information available to the minister’s aides.
She added that even if the federal government is not able to redeem its promise of providing Hilux van and tractor for the group, “let them give us the fertiliser before the end of this farming season because we are more concerned about it, the minister should help us.”
