Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has abolished the security vote concept in the state, saying such will enable government to save cost and ensure transparency in financial transactions.
The state Deputy Governor, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan Hadeija, disclosed this while addressing Jigawa state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) during their anti-corruption rally.
He said monies for security are subjected to the same rules and regulations governing every other financial transaction in the state, ‘‘unlike the previous administration where such issues were treated with utmost secrecy’’.
He added that as part of the cost cutting measures of the state government, Badaru slashed   expenses of the Government House by 82 per cent. Hadeija said in order to fight corruption, leaders must lead by example, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Badaru are doing so.
‘‘Badaru resisted pressure to remove ex-governor Lamido’s men from the Government House because he is running an open government and has nothing to hide’’, he said.
Earlier in his address at the occasion, NLC state chairman, Comrade Usman Ya’u, who read the speech of the National President of NLC, Ayuba Wabba, said the federal government must ensure that all looted funds are returned and special courts set up to try corrupt persons.
He said all government appointees must declare their assets in line with what the president and vice president did.
