Jigawa is a state burdened by a number of problems; the high number of children out of school in our street, lack of infrastructure, inadequate medical personnel and facilities in our health sector, and mediocrity in the education sector among others.

With all these problems, it is sad that instead of debating solutions, we are busy and shamelessly focusing on issues that would create disunity and hatred among us. The earlier we give attention to our problems the better.

We seem divided on which section or emirate gets what from projects being proposed by either the state or federal government.

The recent one was the siting of the Federal University of Technology. Our daily commentators and columnists have written long epistles regarding the place to site the institution. The gibberish, which they have spewed was tainted with hate and abusive words that could create animosity among the people.

Let me remind us that 2023 is near and the election is approaching. the politics of Jigawa State is getting hotter and our sentiment is getting high.

Jigawa has five emirates, and each thinks it is better than the other. Each one feels it must produce the next governor of the state. This is what makes our politicians adopt the evil system of political gerrymandering to manipulate people and place their selfish interest above the interest of the common citizens.

This development, if not checked, will consume the state entirely.

Let’s collaborate to build Jigawa where each citizen can address themself as Jigawan — not from the emirate they come from.
