The Jigawa State Government, on Monday, launched the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund, raising over N40 million to support military veterans, widows and families of fallen heroes.

The ceremony, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Dutse, was presided over by Governor Umar Namadi, who described the event as a solemn moment of reflection and national gratitude. Governor Namadi said the remembrance was not merely symbolic but a call to collective responsibility to care for those left behind by deceased service personnel.

He explained that the emblem appeal fund was aimed at sustaining the welfare of veterans and families of fallen officers.

The governor announced a personal donation of N10m on behalf of himself and his family, while commending the generosity of contributors, including government officials, security agencies, organisations and individuals.

Donations came from local government chairmen, the ALGON chairman, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, traditional rulers and security agencies such as the army, police, FRSC, NSCDC, Hisbah and vigilantes. Private companies and individuals also contributed.

The Chairman of the Armed Forces Remembrance Committee in the state, Aliyu Shehu, appealed for sustained government assistance, particularly in the areas of mobility, construction of a permanent office and the establishment of a centralised service structure for veterans in Jigawa.
