The Jigawa State Government has reiterated the restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycles in Dutse, the state capital, from dawn to 10pm, and all other vehicles after 11:59pm in order to maintain security.

The restrictions came into effect during the administration of ex-Gov Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who is now the Minister of Defence.

When the new government of Gov Umar Namadi came on board, it reviewed the law to help in controlling the security situation in the metropolis.

However, residents called on the state government to put measures that would allow people crossing through the capital and permit those in critical needs like hospital move to their destinations.

Sani Rabiu, a resident, said the law was very good and that he was happy as there was no violation since the restrictions started.

But he said there were people with emergencies like going to hospital, advising that the security personnel should allow such people after verifying their claims.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who noted that restrictions were as a result of security breaches that led to motorcycle snatching, kidnapping, among other vices, said, “We have recorded achievements in terms of security since that time, and the current government renewed the ban so that the state will continue to be safe.”

City & Crime recalls that recently the wives of the Chairman of Kiyawa LGA, Nasiru Ahmed Kiyawa, and one other person in Rungumau in Dutse LGA were kidnapped and later released.
