Plans are underway to site 100 megawatts solar power plant in Dutse, Jigawa state Capital to boost electricity supply in the state.
The power project which is expected to gulp $100 million would be completed within the period of two years.
Speaking to Kano Chronicle, one of the project partners, Engineer Anas Balarabe Yazid said the project would boost the state’s economy, revive its industries, create job opportunities and improve standard of living of the people.
According to him “Jigawa has the highest solar radiation in the country. When completed the project would be first of its kind in Nigeria. We are partnering a German company called Gauff  Gmbh & Co Engineering Germany. It is an international company known across the world for its solar energy technology”.
Engineer Balarabe who is a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Bayero University added that Commerze Bank of Germany and JAIZ bank had shown interest in the project.
“We are still talking with Guaranty Trust bank and at the same time accessing Power Intervention Fund from the CBN. Once it is successful we would set up similar project in other northern states using winds, wastes, solar and several other energy systems,” he said.
He said Jigawa State Government was partnering them in the project and had secured 100 hactres of land for them to site power plant.
