Jigawa to spend N2bn on 886 school structures

The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Babandi Gumel, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly executive council meeting.
He said 436 new structures would be constructed and 450 rehabilitated with the fund.
Babandi explained that the structures include construction of 413 additional classrooms, renovation of 427 classes and construction of 19 administrative blocks.
 Others are fencing of two primary schools, renovation of eight workshops and laboratories, construction of two computer laboratories and construction of 13 new hostels.
He said 212 schools across the state will benefit from the intervention.
In a related development, the SEC has approved the establishment of eight new Arabic secondary schools in the state. The schools will be located in Gwaram, Garki, Kirikasama, Maigatari and Kiyawa local government areas among others.
The commissioner added that additional boarding Arabic schools will be constructed to decongest the existing one in Hadeijia which has about 4,000 students.
