This was disclosed to newsmen by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources, Alhaji Rabi’u Isa, during the 2014 vaccination of animals in Birnin kudu.
He said that from 2007 to date, the state has immunised 1, 611, 197 sheep and goats while 53, 450 dogs were also vaccinated against rabies.
According to him, due to routine vaccination, the level of devastating diseases that often affected animals in the state has declined significantly, adding that the government has included plans to prevent Newcastle poultry disease in the state. The commissioner said the government used to purchase assorted veterinary drugs for farmers at subsidised prices and modern surgical equipment for nine veterinary clinics across the state.
Isa announced that the government has installed 50 wind mills to supply water to animals in 50 grazing reserves across the state.
In his speech at the occasion, Governor Sule Lamido said his administration has committed a lot of resources on agriculture, describing the sector as the mainstay of the state’s economy.
He said that because of his desire to improve agriculture, he convened economic and investment summit in the state in 2013, where many investors expressed their willingness to invest in agro allied industry that could pave way for commercial agriculture in the state.
