The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has approved the appointment of Professor Ahmed Mohammed Gumel as the institution’s fourth vice-chancellor.

The decision was reached at the fourth Extraordinary Meeting of the Governing Council held on December 13, 2025, with the appointment taking effect from February 10, 2026.

Announcing the decision, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem, said the emergence of Prof. Gumel was the outcome of a highly competitive exercise.

According to him, 21 qualified candidates were shortlisted and interviewed by a joint selection committee, after which Prof Gumel was unanimously recommended based on merit, competence and leadership capacity.

In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Gumel expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve.

He pledged to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the current administration and to work collaboratively to advance the university’s academic excellence, research output and institutional development.

Prof. Gumel is a distinguished scholar and administrator with strong local and international credentials. An alumnus of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, he holds a masters in biotechnology and a PhD in industrial biotechnology, specialising in biocatalysis and bioprocess technology.
