Jigawa warns against refuse dumping on waterways

The refuse dump at Tudun Ilu threatening the health and well-being of residents including women and children in the area.

Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency (JISEPPA), has appealed to people of the state to desist from dumping refuse in waterways to prevent flooding as rainy season is about to commence.

Last year, most part of Dutse, the state capital, suffered from over flooding as a result of blockage of waterways
Director Environmental Health of the agency, Nuhu Kazaure, made the appeal while inspecting some drainage in the state.

He emphasized on the need for councils’ chairmen and traditional leaders to assist the state in enlightening members of the public on the danger of indiscriminate refuse dumping.

“While we call on the general public to desist from dumping refuse on water ways, we must also appeal to local government councils and traditional institutions to join the crusade for ensuring drainage are not blocked.”
