Jimeta DCC wins maiden EYN volleyball tourney

Jimeta District Church Council (DCC) has emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) inter district volleyball championship organised by the national leadership of the church.

Jimeta DCC defeated Maiduguri DCC in the final while Yola DCC clinched the third position.

The president of EYN, Reverend Dr. Daniel Mbaya, who congratulated the 12 teams that participated in the tournament held at the EYN headquarters in Kwarhi, said the weeklong event was aimed at promoting unity in the church using sports.

He said despite the devastating experience of insurgency in the North East where the headquarters of EYN also called the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria is located, the church has remained resolute and committed to its vision and mission of propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.

While thanking the Chairman of the occasion and President of the Volleyball Federation of Nigeria, Engineer Musa Nimrod, and other sponsors of the tournament, Rev. Mbaya said EYN remains committed to the plight of the youths and evangelism.

In separate remarks, the Vice-president of EYN, Rev. Nuhu Mutah Abba and the General Secretary, Rev. James Musa, expressed satisfaction with the success of the event stating that the leadership of the church is committed to its vision and mission which is to move EYN to greater heights.

Meanwhile, Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo who represented Adamawa North in the Senate and the Royal Father of the Day, Mbege Ka Michika who was represented, all commended the church on the laudable initiative.

The high point of the closing ceremony was presentation of trophies, medals and awards to the sponsors and friends of the church.
