The 44-year-old model grew up in the slums of Port Au Prince, Haiti until age 12, when he moved to Paris to pursue a modeling career and later on became a Hollywood celebrity. He has starred in ‘Tears of the Sun’ alongside Bruce Willis, ‘Bourne Identity’, ‘Arliss’ and Ghanaian movie  ‘Sinking Sand’.

The Haitan born who recently received an achievement award at the 20th edition of PAN African Film Festival (PAFF) is popular for his role in the television series  Heroes as The Haitian.

For this year’s event which is the eighth, AMAA received three hundred and twenty eight entries from filmmakers across Africa, eighty eight short films, fifty seven documentaries, forty three entries from Africans in Diaspora, six animations and one hundred and thirty four features films.

Nominees will be announced next Saturday March 17 in Banjul, Gambia at the AMAA Awards nomination night.

Targeted at facilitating the development and showcase the social relevance of African Film and Cinema, the ceremony will hold April 22, 2012.

The African Movie Academy Awards was founded in 2005 and has been graced by numerous international media representatives, Hollywood celebrities, Nigerian politicians, other African politicians, journalists, film industry professionals, actresses and actors from all across Africa and beyond.
