The Plateau State Police Command has released 176 almajiri boys to Jama’atu Nasril Islam, (JNI), in Jos and handed them over to the Bauchi State Government at the Bauchi Central Mosque.  

The release followed an order by a Jos Magistrate court on Tuesday that the children who were intercepted in batches by security agents while on their way to Kaduna and Nassarawa states be handed over to JNI who in turn will hand them over to their various state governments. The court has since sentenced some of the Islamic teachers and drivers of the vehicles conveying the children while others have been remanded.

A JNI official in Plateau State, Alhaji Sabo Shua’ibu, received the children under the supervision of the Plateau State Ministry of Women affairs and Social Development.

Alhaji Shua’ibu also said they had travelled with two officials of the Ministry of Women affairs and Social Development to ensure that the children were safely delivered to the Bauchi State Government.

The Police public Relations Officer, Tyopev Terna told our correspondent that the police also provided two vehicles to escort the children to Bauchi.
