The National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dickson Akoh, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the National Peace Corps of Nigeria  Bill recently passed by the Senate. 

 Akoh who is the founder of the youth based organization made this call  in Abuja during  the end of 2016 activities of  the organization held Friday.

He  said that the bill when assented to by Mr. President  would  generate employment opportunities for a lot of youths as the corps is highly trained, organized and disciplined to take the role deemed fit for it by the Senate.

He further said that the Peace Corps of Nigeria has signed MoU with Hajiya Hadiza Buhari’s Africa support and empowerment initiative for the rehabilitation of the released 21 Chibok girls as well willing to give N3.5m for the noble course.

Akoh noted that one of the Peace Corps of Nigeria modest achievement in 2016 was the passage of its bill for an Act at both chambers of the National Assembly that is  seeking for the statutory backing of the president’s assent as well as opening of office in all states of the federation, including FCT.

According to him, Peace Corps of Nigeria apart from creating job opportunities for teeming unemployed youths will also play a significant role in the nation’s security challenges.

 The commandant, who extolled the virtue of Peace Corps of Nigeria corporate development and social responsibility to well meaning Nigerians, said the Corps visited Suleja prison earlier this year with relief materials and  secured the release of 40 inmates with pardonable crime.
