JoBurg Female artists to hold
In celebration of Nigeria’s Independence celebration, the Female Artists Association of Nigeria (FEAAN) in collaboration with The Nigerian Consulate in South Africa is holding an art exhibition, themed, ‘Nigeria@58: The journey so far.’
According to FEAAN president, Mrs. Chinze Ojobo, the event which is holding in Johannesburg, South Africa, identifies talented Nigerian female artists, using them and their skills to bring about positive social change in the society.
Ojobo, in a release said, “the exhibition is a platform to celebrate the art of our great country Nigeria. Since its inception in 2001, the Female Artists Association of Nigeria has had several exhibitions with varying themes. These exhibitions have harnessed the creative skills of Nigerian female artists and fostered a sense of dignity, pride and achievement among female creative professionals.”
According to her the country has seen many challenges over the years including poverty, insecurity and unemployment. She said, “58 years down the line, these issues still plague the country, affecting every facet of the nation’s existence. At this time, our country needs a binder and a healer for the wounds which have for so long, threatened our stability. Undoubtedly, Art is that healer.”
The art exhibition features works of artists like immediate past FEAAN president, Ngozi Akande, Addis Okoli, Amarachi Kelechi Odimba, Awoh Stella Mofunnanya (PhD), Chinyere Ibenye, Chinyere Odinukwe, Doofan Kwaghhool, Ella Onyebe, Igbinovia Omon Sophia, Ojobo and many others.
The event is the organisation’s first outing to South Africa, which boasts an impressive array of Nigeria’s contemporary art, supported by the Honorable Consul General, His Excellency Godwin A. Adama.
