President Goodluck Jonathan has reassured that Abuja is safe for the World Economic Forum on Africa scheduled to kick-off tomorrow.

He gave the assurance at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today during the inauguration of the presidential committee on the rescue of the abducted female students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.

The president assured Nigerians and the delegates to the World Economic Forum that the government had provided a safe and conducive atmosphere for the global event.

According to him, although Nigeria, like every other nation, has her challenges, the government must ensure that the World Economic Forum holds without any hitch.

He said: “Once again, I assure all Nigerians and our esteemed guests, especially delegates to the World Economic Forum, of a safe and conducive atmosphere. We have our challenges just like all other country have, but we must surely make sure that the World Economic Forum goes on without any hitch”.

He further pledged that his administration would continue to reinforce security everywhere around Nigeria so as to sustain the country’s development gains.

Jonathan had last Friday directed that all government schools and offices in the Federal Capital Territory be closed from today to Friday “to ensure free flow of traffic and successful hosting of the World Economic Forum.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, had, however, noted that only offices on essential services were not affected by the president’s directive, adding that private organisations with large number of staff might also wish to close down.

The president had also reportedly directed Supervising Minister of Aviation Samuel Ortom and other officials in the ministry to thoroughly inspect the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
