President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Presidential Advisory Council on International Relations today discussed the impact of the current security challenges.

The discussion took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja during a breakfast meeting the council held with Jonathan.

Rising from the closed-door meeting, a former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku told State House journalists that the negative impact of the insecurity on the Nigeria’s image abroad was discussed.

Anyaoku, who led council members to the meeting, said it also discussed how the Federal Government could check and control the security incidents in the country.

Anyaoku said the closed-door meeting also deliberated on the adverse effects of the current security challenges on the nation’s foreign policy.

Anyaoku, who said the meeting also discussed ways of strengthening Nigeria’s international relations, noted that his team was satisfied with the response of the president on all the issues raised.

“We’re members of the Presidential Advisory Council on International Relations. These days, international relations have a very strong nexus with domestic circumstances. So, we discussed with Mr. President ways of strengthening our international relations both in terms of foreign policy activities and domestic activities.

“We’re very pleased with the response that we got from Mr. President. He carefully considered all the issues raised with him, he responded accordingly, some immediately, others in due course. We talked about the impact the current security situation in the country on our foreign policy and on our image abroad. We talked about how the government activities can check and control the security incidents in the country”, he said.
