The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan’s anticipatory approval of the establishment of Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, Delta State.
Information Minister Patricia Akwashiki disclosed this to State House journalists after the weekly FEC meeting which was presided over by Jonathan.
She said this was sequel to a memorandum by Education Minister Ibrahim Shekarau seeking the council’s ratification of the president’s anticipatory approval for the issuance of provisional license for the establishment of Edwin Clark University.
Akwashiki said the establishment of Edwin Clark University would address the inadequate access to university education and enrolment of students in excess of the carrying capacity of the universities.
She said it would also address the development challenges of the Niger Delta in particular and “the wider global community as a whole”.
The minister added that the FEC also approved the establishment of a Hezekiah Umudi, Imo State which, according to her, is a “Christian-run” university.
