The president gave the charge in Calabar, Cross Rivers State while declaring open the 25th edition of the annual National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) holding in the State.

According to the President, “We must resolve to use all the cultural resources at our disposal to track down and solve every problem of our modern existence including our target of vision 20:2020. This will facilitate our building a truly lofty nation whose wealth reflects in the lives of its citizens. A nation founded on solid morality, national pride and proper application of its cultural heritage and values.  I urge all levels of government and the private sector to key in to culture and tourism.”

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, disclosed that the ministry had embarked on a review of the activities of the ministry and its parastatals with a view to harnessing their entrepreneurial strength so as to contribute significantly to the current administration’s transformation agenda.

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr Malgwi  Maidugu, highlighted the gains of NAFEST since its  inception, including the strengthening of the bond of unity among Nigerians.

Twenty-eight states including the Federal Capital Territory participated in the opening ceremony.
