President Goodluck Jonathan today formally declared his intention to run for the 2015 presidential elections.

Speaking at the Eagles Square in Abuja during official declaration of the president for the 2015 presidential election, Jonathan said he was out to save the nation’s future.

“We can no longer go back to the old era where our rails were not working, where we were importing food, where women and youths were deprived of holding political offices. I promise to work with all of you to save the future of this country.

This is my solemn pledge”, he said.

The president expressed concerns over the current security challenges.

He said his administration would deploy more security forces to fight terrorism.

He commiserated with the families of the victims of a terrorist attack on a government secondary school in Yobe State on Monday.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the Eagle Square, the President outlined some of his achievements in various sectors of the economy and promised better reforms if elected next year.

While lamenting the killing of scores of young student recently in Yobe state, the President said the military would be further equipped, to stem the tide of terrorism in the country.

 The President said he remains grateful for the trust reposed on him by Nigerians, for their understanding over the handling of the difficult insecurity challenges. He pledged to defeat terror and rescue the kidnapped Chibok girls.

President Jonathan said he has started a revolution in the Housing sector that will enable millions of Nigerians to become first time house owners. He said 66,000 mortgage request from young Nigerians is already being processed.

Earlier, various interest groups including the PDP governors’ forum, elder statesmen, market women union, labour unions and the National Assembly, had eulogized the President for steering the ship of the Nigerian economy.
