In the wake of today’s bomb explosion that killed scores of people at a motor park at Nyanya, Abuja, President Goodluck Jonathan says the Boko Haram insurgency is temporary.

Jonathan said the security agents would continue to work hard, stressing that God willing, the nation would get over insurgency.

“We will do our best‎. The security services will continue to work very hard, God willing we will get over it. The issue of Boko Haram is temporary. Surely, we will get over it”, he said. 

The president, who spoke at the scene of the blast, was accompanied there by Senate President David Mark, National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party Adamu Mu’azu, Chief of Defence Staff Alex Badeh, security chiefs and top government officials.

He said despite the distractions emanating from terrorist attacts, his government was doing its best to move the country forward.

The president expressed optimism that the nation would surely get over her current security challenges.

Commiserating with the families of the victims, he said his administration would continue to work very hard to contain insurgency.

Jonathan urged all Nigerians to be observant and security conscious in order to curtail terrorist attacks.

He specifically charged the media to come up with enlightenment programmes for Nigerians regarding security awareness.

“You can see that I’m here with the Senate President, David Mark and the chairman of PDP, ministers, Chief of Defence Staff, service chiefs and all other very senior government functionaries. Let’s collectively express our condolences to the families of those who suffered directly on the incident.

“I am also commending security services ‎for their prompt action. Though we lost quiet a number of people, we condole with our countrymen and women. We will continue to work very hard.

“The issue of Boko Haram is temporary. Government is doing everything to make sure that we move our country forward in spite of all the distractions that want to take us backward. We promise that we will get over it. 

“We also want to use this unique opportunity to plead with the media and our great men and women to come up with enlightenment programme for our people.

“Those countries that face terror, they have developed great awareness. If there are unusual movements of vehicles and bags, they call security and based on this, a lot of incidences are contained.

“So, we believe that if people will become observant and all of us become security conscious by the movement of people, we will be able to reduce some of these incidences”, the president said.
