President Goodluck Jonathan is currently holding an enlarged security meeting with state governors and service chiefs  against the background of the worsening security situation in the country.

The meeting, being held inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, commenced at 12.10pm when the president stepped in.

The governors in attendance are those Zamfara, Anambra, Abia, Bayelsa, Benue, Adamawa, Sokoto, Borno, Kaduna, Kwara, Ebonyi, Taraba, Nasarawa, Ekiti, Kebbi, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ondo and Bauchi States

The deputy governorsof Jigawa, Kano, Rivers, Yobe,Oyo, Edo, Plateau, Imo and Ogun States are also in attendance.

The spiritual leaders in attendance The President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar as well as the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

Others are Vice President Namadi Sambo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Defence Minister Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau, National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), the Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Abubakar as well as the Directors-General of the State Security Services and the National Intelligence Agency.

The meeting is expected to review the security situation in the country as well as ongoing national security measures and operations with a view to determining the best way forward.
