While acknowledging the need for Nigeria to redouble its efforts in its determination to attain the Vision 20-2020, the Acting President specifically mentioned the problems of power, Niger Delta and violent eruptions as recently witnessed in Jos, Plateau State as key issues to tackle head on by the administration.
We can no longer pretend that all is well while we are moving at snail speed in an era that we are required to move at the speed of light to cover lost grounds.
There is no denying the fact that in the last 10 years of our democracy, we have been scratching the surface in terms of development and growth. We need now, more than ever before, to set aside our prejudices and tackle the issues that can ensure the growth of our country. It is even more important now than ever before as Nigeria will in a matter of months, celebrate her 50 years of existence as a nation. A fool at 40, they say, is a fool for ever.
Nigeria cannot afford to be a fool forever with her enormous human and natural resource endowments.
We must commend the Acting President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan for recognizing where the shoes are pinching Nigerians at this time and getting it right with his inaugural speech.
He, had said, “It is now time for us to move on in a more determined manner to tackle the various challenges confronting us as a nation. Our march towards Vision 20-2020 is irreversible.
“Therefore, we see a need to prioritise a few of the most critical areas which continue to plague our efforts to engender meaningful economic growth and development.
Some of these critical sectors include power, infrastructure, security, employment and business opportunities for our teeming young men and women”, he rightly pointed out.
