President Goodluck Jonathan has said that his administration owes Nigerians victory against the Boko Haram insurgents.

Jonathan said this inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa Abuja this morning before inaugurating the Victims’ Support Fund Committee headed by General Theophilus Danjuma.

The president lamented that terrorist attacks had claimed lives of many Nigerians and destroyed valuable property.

The president also reassured the country that his administration remained committed to winning the war against terrorism.

Jonathan said Nigerians must commend the security agencies for putting in their best to contain insurgency.

The president, who insisted that there would be no hiding place for Boko Haram insurgents, said their days are numbered as they and their sponsors would soon be exposed.

He said he would rather be happy inaugurating committees that would drive the country’s development rather than the one Victims Support Committee which, according to him, has become necessary owing to the current security challenges.

He thanked members of the committee for accepting to serve the nation, expressing optimism that they would use their wealth of experience to discharge their responsibilities.

The president also called on all Nigerians to spare a thought for the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency, asking them to donate generously to the Fund.

In his remarks, Danjuma said terrorism has to be brought to an end immediately, saying it has taken too long.

He also told the president said the Boko Haram insurgents appeared to be having the upper over the government

Danjuma stressed that “we must win this war. Mr President, we must win this war”.

He thanked Jonathan for the confidence reposed in the committee’s members, assuring that they would do all that the president wanted them to do.

Danjuma, however, stressed, though jocularly, that the only thing his committee would not do is to go to the Sambisa forest, the hideout of the Boko Haram sect.

A minute silence was later observed in honour of all the victims of the terrorist attacks in the country.
