The president added that “innovation must be key to Nigeria’s competitive advantage, if   Nigeria is to win in today’s challenging knowledge-based global economy”.
Represented at the occasion by the Vice-President Namadi Sambo, the President also charged NASENI to facilitate and support Nigerian businesses so that they can deliver new ideas and technologies to the nation’s market and beyond.
A mandatory technology support to five thousand new businesses was handed down to the agency as target in the first instance by the President. Other mandate targets or expectations given to NASENI board and management by the President to be achieved in few years include: made-in-Nigeria aircraft components in collaboration with the private sector, manufacturing of heavy duty trucks, tanks, tropicalised electric cars and the production of multi-purpose electric motors and generators, all here in Nigeria.
His words: “In pursuit of this objective and in line with our transformation agenda, I expect that within the next few years, NASENI as an agency of technological advancement will collaborate with the private sectors to produce made in Nigeria aircraft components, manufacture heavy duty trucks, tanks and tropicalized electric cars, multi-purpose electric motors and generators all here in our country.
Responding on behalf of the Board Members, the Executive Vice-Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Engr. Dr. Mohammed Sani Haruna, expressed appreciation for the inauguration of the new board, saying that with the caliber of people in the board, they would live up to expectations.
