Jonathan was on April 8 scheduled to join other African leaders at a summit held in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, to discuss the formulation of a joint strategy to fight the Boko Haram terrorist group. But for undisclosed reasons, the president did not attend the summit which was jointly organised by the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Presidency did not disclose the reasons for the president’s trip. Also, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, did not issue any statement on his principal’s journey, marking a departure from the tradition of announcing the president’s trips, state or private.
Efforts to get Abati’s comment were unsuccessful as he could not be reached through his phone, while he also did not reply a text message.
