President Goodluck Jonathan says the incoming administration of Muhammadu Buhari has the right to probe him if it wants to do so and has ordered the release of an audit report into missing funds at NNPC.

His comments came in response to APC spokesman Lai Mohammed’s claim that the Jonathan administration was attempting to tie the hands of a future Buhari administration merely by riding out its tenure.

Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, called the allegation “unfortunate and uncharitable.”

“As Alhaji Mohammed threatened in his statement, the incoming administration will be perfectly within its rights to review all actions of the present government as it may deem fit,” Abati told journalists.

Accusations not going away

Jonathan is deeply concerned by continuing suggestions that his administration still has anything to hide about allegations of $20 billion unaccounted for in his tenure by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) during his tenure.

The presidency has directed that the full forensic audit into NNPC accounts be released to the public to inform all Nigerians on the matter, said Abati.

Abati said the Presidency had also noted with concern, the allegation by Lai Mohammed that officials of the Federal Government were engaged in last minute looting of the nation’s resources, rushed privatization of key institutions and hurried recruitment into the public service.
