Though not official, a keen observer can easily single them out. Describing it as operation fix the North won’t be an overstatement.
It started with lopsided and regionalised appointments. Creating unmerited opportunities for the president’s stooges has become the order of the day. In this era of favouritism and regionalism, merit and excellence don’t exist in this government’s dictionary.
It is still green in our memories, how qualification requirements for the position of the director-general of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), is being tampered with, just to pave way for Mrs  Chinelo Anohu-Amazu. According to recent reports, a bill is seeking to reduce the number of years of experience for candidates of that position from 20 to 15. Mrs. Anohu-Amazu is expected to be confirmed as the substantive chief executive of the commission.
The military is not left out of this project as officers are promoted without merit while others are made to retire. One can go on and on.
What’s more? The National Conference is another ploy designed to enable President Jonathan achieve his aims through the backdoor.  
It is unfortunate that the North is being tactically pushed out of the mainstream of administrative policies in Nigeria, a position they had held since independence. The moment our politicians agreed on a zoning formula in 1999, I knew that the centre would no longer hold for the North. And it is not going to be the same again for the region. It is unfortunate that power has eluded the North for almost 12 years now. Our politicians should wake up from their slumber.
