President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the executive secretary/chief executive officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr Femi Thomas.

Thomas’ removal takes immediate effect, said Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati.

But no reason was state for Thomas’ removal.

Olufemi Akingbade, general manager of information and communication technology at NHIS has been appointed to the head the national insurance scheme, Abati added.

Akingbade hails from Ekiti and holds a bachelors in computer science and a masters in business administration.
