The lawmakers had passed a budget estimate of N4.877 trillion, after adding N180billion to the original N4.6 trillion presented by Jonathan in order to accommodate the Subsidy Reinvestment Empowerment (SURE) programme for the 2012 fiscal year.

A breakdown of the budget puts the recurrent expenditure at N2.425 trillion; capital expenditure, N1.519 trillion; statutory transfers, N372.593 billion; and debt service, N559.580billion.

Jonathan said the signing of the 2012 budget will support economic growth and employment creation adding that his administration would involve the private sector in the development of critical infrastructure.

The signing was done at a brief ceremony yesterday at Presidential Villa Abuja witnessed by Sen. Enyi Abaribe, who represented Senate President David Mark, Deputy Speaker House of Representative Emeka Ihedioha and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Muhammed Adoke.

Others are  Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation Senator Ahmad Maccido and Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly, Senator Joy Emodi.

Meanwhile, President Jonathan yesterday said he would sack all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) who lobbied the National Assembly to distort the 2012 budget.

Jonathan said the attitude of MDAs lobbying for increase of their budget by the National Assembly had been responsible for the difficulties in budget implementation.

He said he already has security information on some heads of parastatala and agencies who lobbied the National Assembly to increase the 2012  budget and he would make scapegoats of them.
