As a matter of fact, Jonathan had endeared himself to Nigerians for providing the environment for free and fair elections and the fact that his concession of defeat had come before all the votes had been counted, won him accolades worldwide.
It also garnered him the sympathy of Nigerians in spite of the inadequacies of his government. However, since after the April 11, 2015 election, there is evidence of absence of government in Nigeria. This is a pointer to the fact that President Jonathan concession of victory to Buhari was a fluke. If  Jonathan  truly  conceded defeat  in statesmanship  spirit,  he  should have provided  an effective leadership  for the nation until the last day  of his  government. However, reverse was the case.         
In the last one month or so, the lives of ordinary Nigerians, including millions who voted Jonathan, have become miserable. It appears the presidency and the ruling party are still hallucinating over the defeat of PDP in the last election, that they are forgotten that their mandate lapses on May 29, 2015. President Jonathan has abandoned the government and given some shylocks, including independent oil marketers a free day to fleece Nigerians to the marrow. Price of petroleum products have sky rocketed which in turn affected the cost of production, transportation and foods.
These in addition to the woes, brought on the nation by endemic power failure. The irony is that downtrodden masses are the most affected and living has become nightmarish in most of our villages and towns. Security of lives and property cannot be guaranteed because of the activities of insurgents, kidnappers and armed robbers. This is apart from the agony faced by civil servants who are been owed arrears of salary. As I write this, a litre of petroleum is sold at N200 in Ogbomoso. Few vehicles ply the road while few commercial motorcyclists that could afford the fuel charged exorbitant fares.
Can we then conclude that the President and his party are inflicting pains on Nigerians because of their loss at the election? If this is the case, it is highly unfortunate and they are turning their backs on history. If President Jonathan had played his leadership role to the end, he would have continually enjoyed the goodwill of Nigerians in future. But with the way he is ending his government, how does he think history would remember him.
