President Goodluck Jonathan again talked tough this afternoon over the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls of Chibok, Borno State, saying “we must bring back our daughters”.

The president said this at the State House in Abuja while inaugurating the presidential committee on the rescue of the abducted girls.

Jonathan said this was not a committee that brings joy to him or to the nation, noting that it was just a necessary step to secure the release of the missing schoolgirls.

He also stressed that the committee was neither a judicial committee nor an administrative panel of inquiry set up to investigate the abduction as such “is the responsibility of the state, not the federal government”.

Responding, the chairman of the
committee, Brig. General Ibrahim A. Sabo(Rtd.)​​​​ said his team would carry out their assignment with fear of God.

The committee has the mandate to liaise with the Borno State government and establish the ​circumstances leading to the school remaining open for boarding ​students when other schools were closed; to liaise with relevant authorities and the parents of the missing girls to ​establish the actual number and identities ofthe girls abducted;
to interface with the Security Services and Borno State Government ​to ascertain how many of the missing girls have returned; to mobilise the surrounding communities and the general public on ​citizen support for a rescue strategy and operation; to articulate a framework for a multi-stakeholder action for the rescue ​of the missing girls; and
​to advise Government on any matter incidental to the terms of ​reference.
